KUCHING, Dec 20: A total of RM130,000 has been handed over by Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap under the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) to Borneo Evangelical Mission (BEM) The Way for upgrading works at the church.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Yap emphasised the State’s commitment to religious freedom, inclusivity and mutual respect among all faiths.

“Unifor reflects Sarawak’s unique strength—unity in diversity. This allocation is not just for infrastructure improvement, but a recognition of the important role religious institutions playplayfostering community cohesion, compassion, and social responsibility,” he said.

The contribution aims to improve the church’s facilities to provide a safer, more comfortable, and conducive environment for worship, community activities, and social outreach programmes.

He also said that the government remains steadfast in supporting places of worship across all faiths, ensuring that no community is left behind.

Moreover, representatives of BEM The Way expressed their appreciation for the support, noting that the funds will enhance church facilities and support more community activities.

Yap also commended the church leadership and volunteers for their continued service to the community and encouraged ongoing collaboration to strengthen harmony and unity in Kota Sentosa. — DayakDaily
