KUCHING (March 29): The opening of Borneo Medical Centre’s (BMC) second satellite laboratory highlights the BMC Group’s commitment to bringing healthcare closer to the community.

BMC board of directors chairman Dr John Chew said the Group recognises that accessibility is crucial in encouraging people to prioritise their health.

“With this facility, we aim to make health screening simpler, faster, and more convenient—allowing more people to benefit from early diagnosis and timely care,” he said during the grand opening yesterday.

Dr Chew added that beyond expanding healthcare infrastructure, the Sarawak-based medical group was also building lives by creating opportunities, nurturing young talent, and developing meaningful careers within the community.

“Today, BMC employs nearly 700 staff in Kuching,” he said.

He further highlighted that all specimens collected at the satellite laboratory are processed at BMC’s main laboratory, which is ISO 15189 certified.

“This ensures that while we expand access, we maintain the highest standards of accuracy, reliability, and quality in every test we perform,” he said.

He also acknowledged the dedication and collaboration of the teams involved.

“I extend my sincere appreciation to our staff who has worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality,” he added.

Looking ahead, Dr Chew affirmed that BMC remains committed to investing, innovating, and serving with the goal of building a healthier community for generations to come.

The grand opening was graced by Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Also present were Kuching South mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, Padawan Municipal Council chairman Tan Kai, BMC executive director Senator Robert Lau Hui Yew and director Dr Simon Wong.
