Body of man swept away while searching for river snails found

KUCHING (Oct 21): The body of a 26-year-old man who was reported missing in the river at Kampung Terusan Jaya, Sematan was found early this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the body, identified as Mohamad Nazratul Kamil, was found by the villagers at around 1.49am, approximately one kilometre from where he was reported missing.

“The body of the victim was brought to the jetty using a boat and handed over to the police for further action,” it added.

With the discovery of the body, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was called off at 3.25am.

It was reported that the victim went missing yesterday after going out to search for snails at the river. He was believed to have been swept away by the currents while attempting to cross the river around 2.10pm.
