KUCHING, July 2: More than 1,500 international delegates and over 70 exhibitors from at least 19 countries are expected to converge at the Borneo International Water & Wastewater Exhibition & Conference (BIWWEC) 2026, set to take place from July 15 to 17 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, said BIWWEC 2026 reflects the Sarawak’s commitment to building a sustainable water sector through investments in infrastructure, digital transformation, capacity building, and environmental stewardship.
“The event is expected to draw around 2,500 visitors in addition to the international delegates and exhibitors, making it one of the largest water industry gatherings in the region,” he said at a press conference held at BCCK today.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, he added that BIWWEC also forms part of Sarawak’s preparations to host the International Water Association (IWA) World Water Congress & Exhibition 2028, further positioning Kuching as a premier destination for global-scale industry events.
Sarawak continues to strengthen its position as a key player in the sector through the annual event, which serves as a major platform bringing together government leaders, industry players, academics, technology providers, and investors from around the world to foster innovation and deepen collaboration in water management.
At the same time, the Sarawak government is actively developing supporting infrastructure, including the BCCK2 project, to cater for future large-scale international conferences.
On youth participation, Julaihi said programmes such as Young Water Professionals are being prioritised to encourage students and emerging talent to explore careers in the water industry.
“This initiative is important in nurturing a future generation capable of understanding and leading the direction of the water sector,” he said, adding that schools in Kuching and Samarahan will also be invited to gain early exposure to sustainable water management.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Telecommunication Datuk Liwan Lagang, Ministry permanent secretary Datu Jafri Lias, and other guests. — DayakDaily
