KUCHING: A ceremony held at the Ranchan Multipurpose Hall on Monday (Nov 13) celebrated the achievements of 69 outstanding SPM and STPM students from the year 2022.
The recipients, hailing from five schools祐MK Serian, SMK Taee, SMK Tarat, SMK Gedong, and SMK Tebakang謡ere presented with certificates of recognition and special incentives during the event.
Conducted by Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus, the initiative falls under the Education and Training Bureau of Bukit Semuja, and specifically aims to acknowledge and support exceptional students from rural areas within the Bukit Semuja constituency.
John pointed out that this initiative reflects the government’s commitment to assist high-achieving students, serving as both recognition for their accomplishments and inspiration for others to strive for excellence.

Encouraging students to continuously pursue knowledge, he stressed the importance of becoming innovators in the rapidly evolving learning landscape.
He urged them to connect classroom education with the outside world, stressing the need for thorough dedication, as reflected in the Malay proverb, “alang-alang menyeluk pekasam biar sampai ke pangkal lengan” (if you’re going to do something, do it thoroughly to achieve success).
Meanwhile, Charlotte Garreth Abel, 18, an outstanding SPM student from SMK Serian, expressed her happiness at being selected as a recipient, noting that the assistance received would help cover her educational expenses, including new books, stationery, and other necessities.
Cordelia Puyang Augustine, 19, an exceptional STPM student from SMK Tarat, also expressed joy and gratitude for being chosen as a recipient. She highlighted how this support would contribute to covering her future higher education expenses at Public Higher Education Institutions (IPTA).
The ceremony was attended by Serian District Education officer Bunsie Tunton and other guests.
