The prestigious event graced by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, was attended by about 2,000 guests including business associates from China, Singapore, Indonesia, East and West Malaysia.

In his opening remarks, King Sing hailed Su Kouk as the pride of Sibu, a steady beacon for Sarawak.

He pointed out that he has made extraordinary achievements in business, non-profit organisations, charitable efforts, and much more.

Highlighting that integrity has always guided his business philosophy, along with a proactive learning attitude, and a deep dedication to building society, he described Su Kouk as an example by which all young people should measure themselves.

According to him, Su Kouk has been in the seafood business since he was 14 years old and established CCK company in 1969.

In order to expand and strengthen the company, King Sing said he introduced imported freezing technology, making CCK one of the largest and most well-known food manufacturers in Sarawak.

“Although he was not born into a wealthy family, Su Kouk’s experience of changing his destiny with his fighting spirit has inspired many. Therefore, in 2015, he was honoured as “The Father of Hawkers”, the highest accolade presented by the Malaysian Traders Association.

“He is one of the elders of our Fuzhou Zhang clan and has held important positions in many related societies and guilds.

“In education, Su Kouk and his wife deeply believe that only strong education had the power to change their destiny. Based on this lifelong philosophy, they have established multiple education funds, and he also serves as the chairman of several primary schools in Sibu, helping to contribute money and efforts towards ensuring excellent education of the next generation,” King Sing stated.

Adding on, he said, at overseas, Su Kouk has donated many times to the construction of his hometown, such as building kindergartens, supporting poverty alleviation programmes, and more.

Meanwhile, the couple’s grandson, Harry Tiong who also spoke at the occasion, described the event as a remarkable and inspiring milestone – his grandfather and grandmother’s 60th diamond wedding anniversary.

This is a day of immense significance, he said, a day that reflects six decades of love, commitment, and shared memories.

“As we look around and see the smiling faces of family and friends who have come from near and far to be a part of this special occasion, we are reminded of the powerful bonds that unite us. Today, we not only celebrate the enduring love between our grandfather and grandmother but also the legacy they have created – a legacy of family, friendship, and unwavering support.

“Sixty years ago, they had embarked on a journey together, promising to stand by each other through thick and thin. Their commitment to one another has weathered the storms of life and celebrated the joys of countless moments.

“Their love story is a testament to the beauty of lifelong companionship, where love deepens and grows richer with the passage of time.

“As we gather to honour this incredible couple, let us take a moment to reflect on the lessons they have taught us – they have taught us the importance of patience, understanding, and the enduring power of love. They have not only built a strong foundation for our family but have also set an example for all of us to follow,” Harry stated.
