Cahya Mata strengthens C-Suite with key leadership appointments

Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib said the appointments bring a strong combination of experience and leadership depth across the organisation.

KUCHING (Dec 2): Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (Cahya Mata) has strengthened its leadership structure with several new appointments across key corporate functions.

The updates include the formal confirmation of Azhar Othman as group chief financial officer, alongside the appointments of Idzam Yuhaizi Mohd Yunos as chief risk officer, Shafik Azlee Mashar as chief internal auditor, Mazlan Tuhiman as chief information officer and Farid Shah Mohd Basir as chief human resources officer.

They report directly to group managing director Dato Sri Sulaiman Abdul Rahman, reinforcing critical functions spanning finance, risk, audit, IT transformation and human resources.

Cahya Mata in a statement on Tuesday said these additions complete a six-month organisational refresh that began with the elevation of Izzam Ibrahim in 2022, previously group general counsel, to the newly created role of group chief corporate services officer overseeing legal, corporate secretarial, ESG and corporate communications.

Sulaiman Abdul Rahman Taib said the appointments bring a strong combination of experience and leadership depth across the organisation.

Azhar, 58, now oversees the group’s financial strategy, capital and treasury management, performance monitoring and investor engagement. His 35-year career spans the semiconductor, automotive, property development, technology and investment holding sectors.

Prior to joining Cahya Mata, he served as group chief operating officer at Dagang NeXchange Berhad, where he previously held the role of group chief financial officer.

Idzam Yuhaizi, 53, takes charge of the group’s risk management framework, covering business, operational and ESG risk oversight, and also serves as Secretary to the Risk Management Committee.

He brings 28 years of experience across the automotive, energy, finance and technology sectors, having held senior roles at UMW Corporation and Malakoff Corporation.

Shafik, 50, joins as chief internal auditor with more than 25 years of experience in internal audit, risk management, telecommunications, IT and governance.

He previously served as head of internal audit at Maxis Berhad and held senior roles at Robi Axiata Ltd (Bangladesh), British American Tobacco and Global Infrastructure Services (CSC).

Mazlan, 55, assumes the role of chief information officer with over 25 years of experience in IT and digital transformation across corporate and consulting environments.

Before joining Cahya Mata, he was CEO of Innovation Associates Consulting, a subsidiary of DNeX Berhad. He has also held senior positions at Delaware Consulting, F&N Holdings and BASF Asia Pacific Center.

Farid, 54, joins as chief human resources officer with 31 years of experience in human resources across multiple industries and markets.

He most recently served as group chief people officer at MBSB Group and previously held HR leadership roles at Telekom Malaysia, Bank Rakyat Malaysia and Nestlé in Malaysia, South Africa and the Philippines.
