MIRI (Dec 9) The Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs’ Chamber (DUBS) Miri branch has urged Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) to review the need to increase flight frequencies for the Miri–Kuching and Miri–Kuala Lumpur routes.
DUBS Miri chairman Mohammad Hafidz Rohani said early morning flights to Kuala Lumpur were crucial for passengers with connecting flights at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), while late-night flights would provide greater flexibility for those returning after work.
“The increase in flight frequencies is one way to stabilise rising airfares and offer more travel options for the public.
“As a major economic hub and gateway from Brunei Darussalam and the northern Sarawak districts of Lawas and Limbang, Miri stands to benefit from improved connectivity in terms of mobility, tourism, and local economic growth,” he said in a statement on Monday.
He added that the move would also support small businesses and entrepreneurs, besides serving as a preparatory step ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
DUBS Miri committee member Fithriah Rahbi echoed the view, saying that relying on a single airline on certain routes reduced competition, resulting in higher ticket prices.
“Introducing additional carriers or increasing flight frequencies would be beneficial to consumers,” she said.
