LUNDU (Oct 5): The Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) is hoped to be included in the TVET Recruitment Unit (UP_TVET) system, which serves as a unified application platform for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses across the country.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed the importance of Centex’s inclusion in the UP_TVET system to ensure that the centre becomes part of Malaysia’s mainstream TVET institutions.

“For your information, the National TVET Council (MTVET) oversees 1,345 TVET institutions nationwide, and when we streamline applications for entering TVET institutions, we have UP_TVET.

“Therefore, I hope that Centexs will be listed on the UP_TVET website, marking its inclusion as a mainstream TVET institution,” he said during the launch of the TVET HRD Corp – Centexs Commercial Initiative at Centexs Lundu today.

Elaborating further, Ahmad Zahid, who is MTVET chairman, said TVET is now playing a key role as a ‘game changer’ in establishing a new educational ecosystem.

“This system is designed not to compete but to complement the existing academic education system.

“We know that Malaysia will become a developed nation due to the commitment and leadership of our Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim),” he added.

He also mentioned that the Prime Minister has tasked him with leading MTVET in coordinating 12 ministries that have their own TVET institutions.

“We need to work together so that the Prime Minister’s vision, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, can be realised through efforts to coordinate the 12 ministries managing TVET with a significant allocation of RM6.8 billion,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim reaffirmed the Unity Government’s commitment to providing high-quality skills training for the people of Sarawak.

“Our mission is to prepare Sarawak’s workforce to face future challenges, including the green economy, energy transition, aviation, aerospace, and more,” he added.

Sim also emphasised the importance of the new UP_TVET system, describing it as a one-stop centre for TVET course applications.

“In the past, those wishing to apply for TVET had to search through various institutional websites or even visit them in person. But with the UP_TVET system, the application process is simplified for SPM and STPM graduates across all TVET institutions nationwide,” he said.
