MIRI (April 8): Chief Justice Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh paid an official visit to the Miri Courts today as part of his tour of Sarawak.
He was accompanied by Chief Registrar of the Federal Court Azhaniz Teh Azman Teh; Court of Appeal judges Datuk Ismail Brahim, Datuk Azhahari Kamal Ramli and Dato Dr Alwi Abdul Wahab; Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Azizah Nawawi; President of the Court of Appeal Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Jais; Chief Judge of Malaya Datuk Seri Hashim Hamzah; and Miri High Court Judicial Commissioner Hamid Ismail.
During the visit, Wan Ahmad Farid met judiciary officials and staff of the Miri Courts before planting a manilkara zapotra (ciku) tree within the court complex as a symbolic gesture to commemorate the occasion.
The visit coincided with a circuit sitting of the Court of Appeal in Miri, which began on Monday and will conclude tomorrow (April 9).
From Monday to Tuesday, a total of 77 cases were heard, of which 62 were disposed of.
Miri marked the final stop of Wan Ahmad Farid’s Sarawak tour.
Prior to this, he officiated the Mukah Court before visiting the Sibu Court to review facilities, statistics and operational requirements.
The delegation also visited the Bintulu Court yesterday.
