KUCHING (August 10): A chlorine gas leak has been reported at the Lubau Layar Betong Water Treatment Plant at 2.26pm today.

According to a statement by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the incident was swiftly addressed by the department, with the Betong Bomba specialist hazardous materials (Hazmat) team arriving at the site at 2.42pm.

The leak occurred within a designated chlorine gas storage room in the facility, and strong chlorine odour was detected following a recent service of the equipment there.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported, and the affected area, containing a 68-kilogrammes chlorine cylinder, was evacuated to ensure safety.
