Cold storage facility partially destroyed in Demak Laut fire

KUCHING (Jan 28): A cold storage facility storing frozen fish in the Demak Laut Industrial Park here was partially destroyed in a fire early Wednesday morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they were notified about the incident at 6.01am and firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya, Petra Jaya and Padungan fire stations were dispatched to the scene.

“The fire involved a cold storage facility storing frozen fish and was about 40 per cent destroyed.

“The blaze was successfully contained and prevented from spreading to a neighbouring factory,” Bomba said, adding no casualties were reported.

Bomba said the fire was fully extinguished at 7.29am, and ventilation works were conducted to clear smoke from the premises.

After ensuring that the area was safe, the firefighters ended the operation at 7.45am.

The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
