KUCHING, Sept. 13: The Stakan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Community Bombing Program is seen to be able to raise public awareness of fire safety aspects and early action in the face of emergencies.
Deputy Member of the National Assembly (ADUN) Stakan, Datuk Hamzah Brahim said that exposure to basic safety sciences is important because the skills can be practiced in everyday life and shared with families and communities.
"The job of a firefighter is not easy because it requires physical and mental resilience as well as great courage, but the science of fire safety should be known by all sections of society.
"Most fires can be caused by things that are commonly used every day, especially kitchen appliances and electricity", he said.
He said this while addressing the closing ceremony of DUN Stakan Community Bomb Program held at Stakan Union Hall, Samarindah Park yesterday afternoon.
In this regard, he stressed that awareness of prevention and early action is essential to reduce the risk of fire from spreading and becoming more serious.
Hamzah also suggested that each Rural Development and Safety Committee (RDC) as well as housing associations in the DUN Stakan area provide at least fire extinguishers in their respective settlements as a preliminary measure before the arrival of the bomb squad.
"We appreciate the volunteer firefighters, loyal staff, participants and local communities for their collaboration in achieving this program, we hope that the knowledge and experience gained can make Stakan more prepared and safe from the risk of fire", he said. -TVS
