SAMARAHAN CITY, Oct. 2: Rapid action by homeowners using fire extinguishers managed to control a fire in a bedroom in Empila Village here this morning.
According to the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) of Sarawak, the fire was reported at 10.16 am before Samarahan City Fire and Rescue Hall (BBP) arrived on site at 10.32 am, about 16 kilometers from the hall.
"The fire involved a bedroom measuring about 10 by 12 feet, about 15 percent of the room was burned in the incident.
"Householders were able to extinguish the fire using a dry-dust unit before the firefighters arrived", the statement said.
The fire brigade then carried out overhaul and inspection work to ensure that no coal or other sources could cause a second fire.
The operation ended completely at 11:05 am, with six members of the Samarahan City BBP using an FRT machine and an EMRS.
