SIBU: Community leaders and ‘Ketua Kaum’ (KMKK) in Dudong are reminded not to take sides between political parties, but instead to carry out their duties without prejudice.
Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said that community leaders should not be tied to any political parties, as it will affect their objectivity.
“The role of community leaders is similar to that of people’s representatives (YB). Hence, you must carry out your duties sincerely, so that the people perceive you as a true leader. Let’s not create chaos by taking sides,” he said at the Pemanca Paing Tawi appointment at the Sibu District Office here today (Dec 22).
He also advised the District Office to conduct seminars for community leaders to ensure that they are fully informed about and understand their roles and responsibilities to better serve the community.
“In Bintulu, for instance, I heard that the people are complaining that their ‘tuai rumah’ (longhouse chief) is not at the longhouse. When they need a signature or anything, they cannot reach their longhouse chief.
“This should not be happening, as it will create trouble for the people. Community leaders should be available to help their people in need,” he added.
Meanwhile, regarding the appointment, Tiong hoped that Pemanca Paing will fulfill his responsibilities honestly and sincerely to the Iban community in Sibu.
Also present were Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chairman Robert Lau, Sibu District Officer Khalid Andong, Temenggong Stanley Gramong Bandar and others.
