KUCHING: The construction of the much-anticipated water reservoir in Kampung Bunga Rampai is projected to commence in early 2025.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Ir Lo Khere Chiang stated that this project will provide vital support to the residents of Kampung Bunga Rampai in tackling the persistent water supply issues that have affected the community for two consecutive years.

The project, said Lo, costing over RM53 million and scheduled to take two years to complete (early 2027) will provide water supply to not only 600 residents in the said area, but also residents in Bau and Sematan.

“Kampung Bunga Rampai is one of the strongest areas under my constituency and for the past two years, residents in the area are not very happy because of this water shortage problem.

“The reservoir project is for the long term, and for the short term, Kuching Water Board (KWB) will increase the water pressure of the pipelines for the area, so that the residents will be provided with water supply,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after attending the dialogue session with the leaders under the Batu Kitang constituency at Batu Kitang Service Centre here on Friday.

Moreover, Lo said that KWB will continue to improve its service, especially when it comes to addressing the complaints by members of the public.

“KWB also assured us that they will make sure contractors would do a great job when it comes to handling the project.

“My suggestion towards KWB is that if the contractors do not do their job very well, terminate their contract and give them to the next one,” he added.

In the meantime, KWB deputy general manager Ismail Ali said the project will be constructed at an elevation of 68 metres above sea level, utilising gravity for water distribution.

He stated that for water booster station in Mile 10 Kota Padawan, an upgrading project is currently in the works with 40 per cent completed and expected to be fully completed by December 19 next year.

“”The upgrade project, with a budget of RM10 million, will increase the water capacity from three million litres to eight million litres for Landeh, with an additional eight million litres allocated for the Puncak Borneo area,” he stated.

Also present during the dialogue session were KWB board member Amy Tnay Li Ping and other distinguished guests.
