KUCHING, 15 September: Cooperation between the Government of Sarawak and the Federal Government in the field of arts and culture will continue to be strengthened to strengthen ties and expand benefits to society.

The Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts of Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said it is important to ensure that various arts and culture related programs can be implemented continuously.

According to him, the meeting between Sarawak's National Department of Culture and Arts (JKKN), Sarawak Arts Council (MSS) and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts (MTCP) was also aimed at strengthening friendly relations as well as strengthening cooperation in the implementation of the programme every year.

"It includes the Gendang Festival held annually in honour of the Sarawak Regatta.

"This cooperation is also expanded through the implementation of programmes involving educational institutions such as schools, thereby strengthening ties and cooperation in arts and culture in Sarawak", he said.

He said this when he was met by the media after the stage truck handover ceremony moving from JKKN Sarawak to MSS in Kuching, on Tuesday.

In the same development, JKKN Sarawak handed over a moving stage truck to MSS to support the implementation of programs as well as arts and cultural activities across the state.

Abdul Karim said the facility is expected to help MSS provide mobile exhibition space in appropriate locations, thereby expanding public access to arts and cultural programs.

In addition to supporting the implementation of various programmes, the handover also reflects ongoing cooperation between Federal Government agencies and Sarawak Government in strengthening the arts, culture and heritage ecosystem in the region.-TVS
