KUCHING (Jan 29): Police arrested 37 individuals for various drug-related offences during ‘Op Tapis Khas’ conducted from Jan 25 to 27 around the Kuching area.
Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the three-day special operation was aimed at curbing drug trafficking and abuse in the district.
“During the operation, two individuals were arrested under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, one under Section 39A(1), seven under Section 12(2), one under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, while another 26 individuals were detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
He added that police also seized 65.85g of methamphetamine and 63 litres of ketum water, with the total value of the seizures estimated at RM7,873.
“The success of the operation was the result of continuous intelligence work and cooperation from members of the public who provided information to the police,” he said.
Alexson stressed that police would not compromise with any party involved in drug-related activities, as such offences are serious under the law.
He added that the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department will remain committed to combating drugs to protect current and future generations.
