MCMC found several posts insulting religion in a social media group, believed to have been made by the same person.
PETALING JAYA:

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is working with police and social media platforms to track down a person who allegedly posted images of the Quran being stepped on and defaced with obscene drawings.

It said the original post on Facebook had been deleted and the responsible account, named “Dickie Borneo”, had been locked.

“Further investigations are ongoing. Monitoring by MCMC also found several other posts insulting religion, believed to have been made by the same person, in a social media group.

“All the posts have been preserved as evidence for investigation and further action,” it said in a statement today.

The commission said the person’s actions were not only insulting to Islam but could incite tensions and threaten the harmony of Malaysia’s multiracial and multireligious society.

“MCMC will not compromise on any content that insults religion, incites hatred or touches on racial, religious and royal sensitivities,” it said.

Yesterday, Sabah’s religious affairs committee chairman Arifin Arif said the state government would launch an immediate investigation into the matter as it allegedly involved a Sabahan.

This incident comes after a Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah student pleaded not guilty last Tuesday to a charge of defiling a copy of the Quran by stepping on it.

S Vikneswaran claimed trial to a charge of improper use of network facilities for posting a picture on social media showing him stepping on the Quran.

The incident caused an uproar, with some netizens posting his personal information online, a practice known as doxxing.
