KUCHING: Due to using company funds of RM1,200 for personal use, a courier willingly filed a false police report, claiming to have been robbed by two men in an incident at Jalan Demak last November.
However, the act backfired when Syafiq, 21, was fined RM700 or one month in jail after pleading guilty to charges under Section 182 of the Penal Code read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.
According to the charge, he committed the offence at the Bintawa Police Station around 6:09 PM on November 26, 2023.
If convicted, he could be sentenced to imprisonment for up to six months or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
According to the case facts, during the incident, the accused filed a police report claiming to have been robbed by two unknown men riding a motorcycle and brandishing a knife at him on Jalan Demak.
He claimed that the two men rummaged through his bag and took a total of RM1,200, which belonged to the courier service company, along with his personal money amounting to RM60.
Investigations revealed that the accused’s report was false, and there was no robbery or loss suffered by the accused.
The accused’s motive for making the report was to deceive his employer because he had used the funds for personal use.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.
