MIRI: Curtin University Malaysia’s School of Pre-U and Continuing Education (SPACE) showcased the spirit of community service as 14 student volunteers engaged with the Kompleks Kebajikan Hamidah Yakup orphanage here on Thursday (Jan 5).

This initiative, a part of their Introduction to Community Service unit, aimed to infuse joy into the lives of the orphans through various entertaining activities.

It was also an opportunity for the student volunteers to interact with the orphans to foster a sense of being at one with the community.

Kompleks Kebajikan Hamidah Yakup manager Shamsiah Sanai Tahir expressed gratitude towards the students, highlighting the positive impact the event had on the orphans.

She also extended appreciation to Farahezza Hairon Nizar, a lecturer from Curtin Malaysia Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences, for her support to the orphanage.

Elly Maszlien, the leader of the student group, conveyed the meaningful nature of the experience.

“It was fun getting to know the children and interacting with them. It was also a joy watching them participating enthusiastically in the activities and really enjoying themselves. It made all our efforts worthwhile,” she said.

The students consisted of first to fourth semester students from diverse disciplines, including Media Studies, Information Technology and Commerce.
