Lau (centre) inspects the culvert installation works during his visit.
SIBU (March 5): Installation works for new culvert pipes at Jalan Nam Ping Chiong 3 are progressing well under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) project, said Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman and Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) councillor Kevin Lau.
Lau said the project is aimed at improving the effectiveness of the drainage system, addressing longstanding water flow issues and enhancing safety for residents, particularly during the rainy season.
He conducted a site inspection of the culvert upgrading works yesterday with his branch team and expressed satisfaction with the overall progress.
“Projects like this directly improve drainage and safeguard the lives and properties of residents,” he said in a statement after the visit.
However, Lau noted that several minor technical adjustments were identified during the inspection to further strengthen the system.
“These improvements are necessary to ensure the culvert can effectively prevent soil erosion and structural wear during periods of heavy rainfall,” he said.
He added that his team will work closely with SRDC engineers to address the technical refinements to ensure smooth project implementation.
“Every small improvement and adjustment is crucial when it comes to safeguarding the safety and well-being of our community,” he said.
Lau also thanked residents for their cooperation and feedback throughout the project implementation.
