MUKAH, 3 Oct: “Jangan khuatir selagi Abang Johari ada” (Do not worry as long as Abang Johari is here) was Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s reassuring message to Sarawakians today as he teased what lies ahead in the upcoming Sarawak Budget.
Speaking at the Sarawakku Sayang Programme in Mukah today, Abang Johari announced that he will table the State Budget during the State Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting on 12 Oct, where full details on Sarawak’s revenue outlook and electricity tariffs will be unveiled.
“God willing, in two weeks I will table the Sarawak Budget. Whether electricity tariffs will increase or not, whether Sarawak will move forward or not — do not worry as long as Abang Johari is here,” he said.
The Premier noted that the public would gain full clarity on the State’s financial standing and long-term economic roadmap during the upcoming DUS sitting.
Highlighting Sarawak’s fiscal growth, he pointed out that State revenue has doubled, rising from RM6 billion to RM7 billion during the administration of the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud to RM14 billion today.
According to him, this strong financial posture has enabled the State government to fund its own development projects over the past six years rather than depending entirely on federal assistance.
“We cannot depend 100 per cent on Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya. We must find ways to strengthen our own economy and boost Sarawak’s revenue,” he emphasised.
He explained this economic fortitude is vital for realising Sarawak’s ambition of becoming a developed and prosperous state by 2030.
He stressed that a strong financial foundation directly powers improvements across social sectors, education and essential infrastructure, including reliable water and electricity supplies.
Abang Johari urged Sarawakians to view ongoing development efforts as a public service, assuring them that sincere intentions would ultimately benefit the entire state. He called on the community to remain united to ensure Sarawak continues on its upward trajectory of growth and prosperity. — DayakDaily
