KUCHING, Sept 13: North Kuching City Council (DBKU) receives five-star recognition through the Technical Audit Star Rating Program (PBAT) of the Department of Local Government (JKT) in 2026.

The recognition was given on the occasion of World Environmental Health Day 2026 Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Levels Council in Penang, today.

The Mayor of North Kuching, Dato Hilmy Othman was present to receive the recognition on behalf of DBKU.

According to the DBKU statement, the achievement reflects its continued commitment to ensure quality, systematic and effective implementation of environmental health services management and delivery.

"The business covers aspects of urban hygiene, food safety, pollution, solid waste management as well as various environmental issues that can affect public health and welfare.

"DBKU also plays an important role as a frontline agency in ensuring North Kuching remains clean, safe, healthy and comfortable to live in, along with its responsibilities as a local authority", according to the statement.

DBKU describes the success as a result of the commitment, cooperation and team spirit of all its workers, in addition to community support and involvement in ensuring that the level of hygiene and well-being of the city is always at its best.

According to the statement, the recognition will be an incentive to strengthen a culture of excellence and implement continuous improvement in delivery of municipal services to residents of North Kuching.-TVS
