KUCHING (Oct 20): The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) will continue to organise and run community events aimed at strengthening social unity and enhancing the well-being of residents within its jurisdiction.

In highlighting this, Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi says the initiative is part of DBKU’s ongoing commitment towards ensuring that Kuching remains a clean, safe, smart and sustainable city.

“It is essential to preserve social unity in our community, which is why we will hold more events that offer opportunities for the residents to interact, share ideas and strengthen the cooperation with DBKU.

“The cooperation will involve matters such as safety, cleanliness and the overall well-being of our city,” he said in his speech for the closing ceremony of ‘DBKU Friendly Neighbourhood Carnival’ (KJM) 2024 at Padang Merdeka today.

On the two-day carnival, Dr Abdul Rahman, who is in-charge of DBKU, said it was the programme’s third edition since its introduction in 2022.

“The event has become a cornerstone in fostering camaraderie among residents in the DBKU administrative area, promoting healthy competition and also cultivating a sense of shared responsibility.

“My gratitude to all parties involved in the carnival’s success, from the organisers and strategic partners, to the local communities and the volunteers.

“The success of this programme is the result of close collaboration between all parties,” said the Pantai Damai assemblyman.

Apart from that, Dr Abdul Rahman also hailed the carnival as not just a platform to enhance neighbourhood relations, but also to strengthen friendships and unity.

“By introducing various community programmes, DBKU also aims to build long-term cooperation with the residents in its areas of jurisdiction in its efforts to make Kuching a city both beautiful and sustainable.

“These initiatives are crucial in maintaining the social fabric of the city and ensuring the ongoing collaboration between DBKU and the people it serves.”

At the event, Dr Abdul Rahman also presented prizes to the top participants of sports competitions held throughout the DBKU KJM 2024.

Also present was Kuching North Datuk Bandar Hilmy Othman.
