Dead man, car driven out into the ditch

KUCHING, Sept. 13: A man was killed after the Kenari Period was driven free before falling back into a ditch in an auto accident on Moyan River Road here early this morning.

In the 3am incident, the victim, Jeffery Dion, 41, who worked as a cook, was confirmed dead at the scene by Sarawak General Hospital Medical Officer Assistant (HUS).

Padawan District Police Chief, Superintendent Barry William said the accident occurred as the victim drove the vehicle alone from Pines Square, Batu Kawa towards Kampung Sagah, Matang Road.

"The initial investigation found that when the two men arrived at the scene, they were moving straight before the victim lost control of his vehicle.

"The vehicle then left on the right shoulder of the road before turning and reversing in the ditch.

He said, the Traffic Division of IPD Padawan received information about the accident at around 10.30 am before a team of members was deployed to the scene for investigation.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"Police are also taking further action including taking photos at the scene, searching for witnesses to assist with the investigation and detained the vehicle for inspection by Puspakom", he said.
