BINTULU (March 29): The completion of the RM1.4 million suspension bridge at Pengkalan Selangan spanning Sungai Nyalau will greatly benefit residents of Rumah Sagoh Muyan in Nyalau, said Datuk Majang Renggi.
The Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development said the project, funded by the Forest Concession Area (Rehabilitation and Development) Fund, had long been awaited by the longhouse residents.
“This bridge crossing Sungai Nyalau is an important initiative to strengthen rural connectivity in the area,” he said during the opening ceremony on Saturday.
According to the Samalaju assemblyman, the bridge will provide several benefits to the local community.
“It will ease daily access to farms, schools and basic facilities, while improving safety by reducing dependence on boats, especially during the rainy season when river levels rise.
“It will also save travel time and facilitate economic activities, acting as a catalyst for socio-economic development and improving the quality of life of rural residents,” he added.
Majang expressed hope that the bridge would be fully utilised by the local community and contribute to sustainable development in Nyalau.
Among those present at the ceremony were acting Bintulu district officer Suzana Indiat, Public Works Department Bintulu divisional engineer Lau Sie Hung, Penghulu Man Imbak and Penghulu Sulang Arah.
