KUCHING, Sept 19: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian is seeking Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s intervention to move a secondary school in Batu Kawa to higher ground due to persistent flooding concerns.

Speaking at the Batu Kawa Lantern Festival at Batu Kawa Old Bazaar today, Dr Sim, who is also Batu Kawa assemblyman, said the school’s current location was prone to flooding and should be moved to a safer, elevated site.

“I want to seek the Premier’s help to move the school to higher ground because the current site is prone to flooding,” he said.

Dr Sim said the proposed relocation would also support Batu Kawa’s growing population and the need for adequate education facilities in the constituency.

He said education infrastructure was part of broader efforts to equip Batu Kawa with essential amenities as the area continues to expand.

The Batu Kawa assemblyman said the long-term development plan for Batu Kawa was aimed at making the area more self-sufficient by 2030 with schools, commercial centres and improved road connectivity among the facilities being developed. — DayakDaily
