KUCHING, Jan 16: The development of Bayur Rural Growth Centre will commence this year with the handing over of the project scheduled for Jan 22 at the Padawan sub-district office.

Stressing this, Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Roads) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-Ficord) has agreed that the project be under Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) with two phases comprising a coffee collection centre and a commercial centre.

M-Ficord is a Sarawak government ministry overseeing the development of agriculture and rural economy.

“The Bayur Rural Growth Centre is a project under GKCDA for 2024 and 2025 and it will definitely start this year.

“For Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) multipurpose hall, coffee collection centre and petrol station, they will come first and the commercial centre later,” Dr Jerip told reporters today.

Dr Jerip, who is Mambong assemblyman said this after witnessing a contract signing for rubbish collection in 13 villages in Upper Padawan, held at the Padawan sub-district office along Jalan Borneo Heights.

According to Dr Jerip, the development of the commercial centre will be awarded to a private entity, and thus will come later.

Dr Jerip said Bayur Rural Growth Centre will maintain its name for the time being, adding that there was a suggestion for the centre to be named Kota Penrissen.

On this, he said he will be getting feedback from community leaders and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) councillors from the area.

He explained that the change of name will also be subject to the Sarawak cabinet’s approval. — DayakDaily
