KUCHING, June 26: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth has slammed Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Sarawak for allegedly obscuring the face and presence of the Sarawak Premier in online visuals related to the Bintulu Port handover event, describing the action as rude, arrogant, disrespectful and an insult to the contributions of Sarawak’s leadership.
In a statement, PBB Youth information chief Royston Valentine said the visuals circulated on DAPSY’s social media platforms appeared to deliberately edit out Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg from an official-looking cheque handover image between the federal government and the Sarawak government.
He said the edited graphics, which allegedly replaced or covered the Premier’s presence with images of DAPSY leaders, gave the impression that Sarawak’s top leadership played no role in the acquisition of Bintulu Port.
“In their statements, DAPSY leadership did not acknowledge at all the efforts and commitment of the Sarawak Government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) over several years to secure the takeover of Bintulu Port, which cost up to RM1.8 billion and was funded by the Sarawak government itself,” he said.
He stressed that the Bintulu Port acquisition cost the Sarawak government about RM1.8 billion, clarifying that it was not a free transfer from the Federal Government as might be perceived.
“In fact, they are acting as if they were the ones who championed Sarawak’s rights and interests under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), whereas all this time they remained silent, waiting, and only observing while GPS leaders worked tirelessly to restore Sarawak’s rights,” he said.
Royston, who is also Tellian assemblyman, said while the Sarawak government is not seeking credit, it is important for the public to understand the role played by the State leadership, particularly the Premier, in achieving the port acquisition.
He said DAP Sarawak should not mislead the public through what he described as political manipulation, which he claimed had become a recurring tactic in the State’s political landscape.
He added that the people of Sarawak were capable of assessing the government’s track record, citing developments in infrastructure, economy, education, welfare and social progress under GPS leadership.
“These achievements are recognised by all, not only by the people of Sarawak but also by those outside the State. This gives us confidence that Sarawak is being properly taken care of under a strong and stable GPS government leadership,” he said.
Royston added that the people of Sarawak themselves would judge what he described as the rudeness and arrogance of DAP Sarawak leaders, whether from the youth wing or senior leadership, who he said continuously attempt to create negative narratives against the GPS government.
He said PBB Youth would continue to refute what it described as baseless claims and urged all parties to avoid actions that could disrupt unity, stability and harmony in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
