KUCHING, 15 Oct: Sarawak Government has been urged to resolve the issue of ownership of long-term housing estate in three Skim Settlement Initial (SPS) Rajang Area Security Centre (RASCOM) areas in the DUN area of Ngemah which still holds government land status.

A member of the National Assembly (ADUN) Ngemah, Anyi Jana said that the issue involves residents of Nanga Jagau SPS, Nanga Ngungun SPS and Nanga Tada SPS who live in more than 60 long houses with a population of over 6,000 people.

According to him, the relocation was created more than 50 years ago to curb communist threats and ensure the safety of residents in the area.

"However, after more than 50 years of the establishment of SPS RASCOM, there are some issues that need immediate resolution and attention from the Government of Sarawak namely property rights for long house settlement in Nanga Jagau SPS, Nanga Ngungun SPS and Nanga Tada SPS", he said.

He said this while discussing Sarawak Budget 2027 at the 19th Sarawak DUN Conference today.

In addition to the land ownership issue, Anyi also called for upgrading health facilities at Nanga Ngungun SPS including placement of medical officers and provision of ambulance services.

He said that Nanga Ngungun Health Clinic pioneering project has been completed, but the process of preparation of documents by Department of Public Works (JKR) for submission to Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) is still underway.

He also requested that the construction of SPS Nanga Ngungun Serguna Hall announced by Prime Minister Sarawak during the work visit in July 2021 be started immediately.

In the same development, Anyi proposed the construction of a mini stadium at Nanga Ngungun SPS to meet the needs of sports activities and community programs as DUN Ngemah still does not have the facilities.

He said, at this time, the programme requiring sports facilities had to be implemented in Kanowit Sports Complex located in DUN Machan area.

"Construction of mini stadium in DUN N.49 Ngemah especially at strategic locations like Nanga Ngungun SPS is very necessary, moreover there are two secondary schools and 18 primary schools in DUN Ngemah", he said.-TVS
