KUCHING, 16 Oct: The poor road conditions, including the former ballak road which is no longer accessible to vehicles, affect access of residents in 11 Penan villages in Ulu Limbang region to education, health services and basic daily necessities.
Batu Danau (ADUN) Member of the National Assembly, Paulus Palu Gumbang said that part of the road to the village had been unmanaged for a long time after ploughing companies stopped operating in the area.
"The 11 Penan villages involved are Kartadem, Long Sebayang, Long Tegan, Long Kapon, Long Sulung, Long Rayeh, Long Keneng, Long Persek, Long Adang, Long Gita and Ba Nyakit.
In this regard, I hope that part of the RM742 million allocation for road and bridge construction across Sarawak next year can be used to repair and upgrade roads in Batu Danau area", he said while addressing the Supply Bill (2027), 2026, at the 19th session of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.
In addition to the route to Penan village, Paul also requested that some major roads in the Batu Danau area be upgraded, including Bawang Ubor Road or Ulu Tubai Road to Red Land and Simpang Kubong/Ulu Pandaruan/Nanga Medamit Road.
Obviously, Ulu Tubai Road was designed to connect with the Main Road leading to Buda Mountain.
He also requested the construction of roads to the Jampong, Melaban and Lembong houses in Kampung Entakong, which are currently dependent on the former balak road which is also in daif condition. - TVS
