SUNJAN, 4 Oct: E-race is seen as potentially a new platform to attract youth interest in motorsport, besides providing early exposure on vehicle operation.

Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Development Sarawak, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said that the field can be explored through simulation games such asThe Gran Turismo.

According to him, involvement in e-racing enables young people to gain basic vehicle operating experience in a virtual environment before entering the field of motorsport more seriously.

"Maybe right now we're playing e-sports, maybe e-racing orThe Gran Turismo, one of the most popular right now.

"This is practical because I think soon there will be a race car circuit in the building.

"So practice. If we can't get in the car, let's play e-sports first. Maybe you can feel how we operate these vehicles", he said.

He said this while addressing the Simunjan Youth Festival 2026 Suspension Meeting here, on Sunday.

In the same speech, Gerald explained that e-sports highlighted through Simunjan Youth Festival 2026 also has the potential to open up space for Sarawak's youth to make a name in international media.

He said e-sports are now among the sports that offer high opportunities and rewards, so it's worth exploring for young people.

"Involvement in e-sports can not only hone talent and skills, but also have the potential to produce more Sarawak e-sports athletes capable of creating success at national and international levels", he said. -TVS
