LUNDU, June 19: An elderly man was found dead on the riverbank of Sungai Batang Kayan today, prompting the intervention of the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) to retrieve the body.
According to Bomba, personnel from the Lundu fire station were deployed after receiving a request for assistance from the police at about 12.50pm.
The request came following the discovery of the body by members of the public, who alerted the authorities.
The deceased was identified as Lipi Jain, a man believed to be in his 70s.
A three-member fire and rescue team arrived at the scene at 12.53pm and found the body on the riverbank.
Firefighters subsequently placed the body in a body bag and carried it to land for further action.
The remains were later handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for investigation and further procedures.
The operation was brought under control at 2pm and concluded at 2.30pm.
The retrieval operation involved three firefighters and an aluminium boat. Police personnel were also present at the scene. — DayakDaily
