KUCHING, July 4: Police arrested 15 local and foreign women for allegedly offering the services of guest relations officers (GRO) in a raid on five entertainment outlets in Kuching city on Tuesday (July 2).
Kuching District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah stated that the Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD) Special Team conducted the raids under “Ops Noda and Ops Pusat Hiburan”, which commenced at 10.55pm.
He said those arrested comprised six local women and nine foreign women for providing GRO services, along with four local male workers and 17 male customers from five entertainment outlets.
“All the foreign suspects have been remanded for 14 days under Section 51(5)(b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for offenses of breaching pass, permit and border pass conditions.
“The local suspects are remanded for four days,” he said in a statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 372 of the Penal Code for soliciting for purpose of prostitution, which carries a potential imprisonment of up to 15 years, along with whipping and a fine.
The foreign suspects are also investigated under Section 39(b) of Immigration Regulations 1963, which provides penalties of imprisonment of not more than six months or a fine not exceeding RM1,000, or both if convicted. — DayakDaily
