BINTULU (Feb 22): A medium density fiberboard factory here was partially damaged in a fire this morning.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they were notified about the incident at 9.09am and firefighters from the Kidurong and Bintulu fire stations were immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, it was reported that the fire involved a permanent structure measuring approximately 144 by 492 square feet.
“The blaze affected fibre materials, believed to be medium density fibreboard, and machinery inside the building,” Bomba said.
Thick smoke was observed billowing from the premises during the incident.
Bomba said the fire was successfully brought under control at 9.40am.
“Firefighters are continuing overhaul and cooling operations to prevent any possibility of reignition,” it added.
No casualties have been reported as of press time.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still under investigation.
