SERIAN, Oct 8: A woman loses RM1,950 after buying a form of gold ring allegedly 916 from a man in a face-to-face sale at Hong Leong Bank parking lot, Serian Market.
Serian Regional Police Chief Superintendent Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian said reports of the incident were received yesterday, while the incident is believed to have occurred on October 4 at approximately 5:00 p.m.
According to him, the victim from Serian earlier was contacted by a man who introduced himself as 'Bobo' and offered a form of yellow ring weighing about 5.4 grams for RM1,950.
"The suspect claims the ring is his 916 gold and wants to sell it because he needs money. The victim then makes a cash payment without receiving any receipts or official sales documents.
"On October 5th, the victim and his friend conducted an acidity test and found that the ring was not pure gold and suspected to be fake", he said in a statement today.
He said the investigation found that the victim was engaged in gold buying activities part-time and promoting the service through social media.
"The suspect is believed to have taken advantage of the affair before committing fraud in person.
"Preliminary checks through CCIS also found no information related to the phone number or bank account of the suspect obtained so far", he said.
The case is under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
