LAWAS, Oct 22: Two buildings at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Lawas were completely destroyed in a fire last night (Oct 21).

According to a report by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received the emergency call regarding the incident at 11.36pm before despatching a team of firefighters from Lawas Fire Station (BBP).

The blaze completely destroyed two school buildings comprising an administration block measuring 180×40 feet and a knowledge centre measuring 45×20 feet.

Operation Commander PBK II KUP Hilmy Said reported that the firefighting team faced challenges due to water supply issues at the site.

Using two water lines and implementing relay pumping, the firefighters contained the blaze by 1.23am and completed extinguishing efforts by 4.35am.

Seventeen Bomba personnel were involved, with assistance from other agencies including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Civil Defence Force (APM).

No casualties were reported in the incident. — DayakDaily
