First floor of shoplot at Sibu’s Eco Garden totally destroyed in fire

SIBU (March 23): The first floor of a shoplot at Eco Garden here was totally destroyed in a fire on Sunday.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said 11 firefighters from the Sibu Jaya and Sungai Merah fire stations were deployed to the scene after receiving a call at 8.43pm.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found that the blaze involved a first-floor unit of a permanent-structure shoplot measuring 20 by 40 feet, which was already fully destroyed.

“Firefighters managed to contain the blaze from spreading to the ground floor, which houses a furniture shop,” the statement said.

Firefighters successful extinguished the fire before ending the operation at 9.56pm.

The department added that the fire did not involve any casualties.
