SIBU (Dec 11): Rescuers have launched a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation for a fisherman after his boat capsized off the coast of Kampung Tekajong, Daro earlier today.
Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Andy Alie said the boat carrying Aldin Rakli, 59, from Kampung Petanak and a fellow fisherman was reportedly struck by strong waves and overturned around 9am.
“Two men had departed Kampung Petanak at about 7am and were heading towards Matu.
“Based on the information relayed to us, the victim’s friend managed to swim to shore and later contacted the victim’s family to inform them of what happened.
“The victim, however, did not make it to land,” said Andy when contacted.
He added that Bomba had established a forward command post in Tanjung Sirik to coordinate the search efforts.
“Personnel from the Daro fire station are conducting the SAR operation, but the victim has yet to be located.”
Andy said rescuers are focusing their search along the coast and surrounding waters of Kampung Tekajong.
