Fishing vessel skipper dies after falling overboard off Tg Po

KUCHING (Sept 19): The skipper of a local fishing vessel near here died after he allegedly fell overboard yesterday.

According to a statement by Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak director First Admiral Kamal Ariffin Jusoh, the 43-year-old Indonesian fell overboard before being rescued by two of his crewmates. He was unconscious after the rescue.

Kamal said the agency’s Maritime Rescue Sub Center received an emergency call from the owner of the fishing vessel, Eric Yeo, before dispatching a patrol vessel KM Marlin to the fishing vessel’s location at 2.30pm yesterday.

The patrol vessel managed to locate the fishing vessel around 11.08pm later, located some 36 nautical miles north of Tanjung Po.

The unconscious skipper was then brought back to the Tun Abang Salahuddin Maritime Complex in Muara Tebas and arrived around 12.15pm today.

He was then declared dead at the jetty before his body was handed over to the police for further action.
