BINTANGOR (Aug 20): A total of five Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects for the Meradong constituency have been approved.

Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the monitoring and survey works would involve several government and non-government agencies.

“The first project is to look at the school site of SK Bandar Bintangor for the construction of a new special education building.

“There are insufficient classrooms as the primary school receives more and more pupils each year.

“The second survey was carried out on the main road at Jambatan Merah Bintangor following works to relocate a telecommunications pole located close to the main road.

“For the third programme, we visited the road junction at Batu 6, Jalan Lelabi along the Pan Borneo Highway because the junction is very steep and dangerous for road users and local residents,” he said when met by reporters after visiting these proposed RTP project sites here last Sunday.

Ding was accompanied by representatives of the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarikei branch and Telekom Malaysia (TM) Sibu.

He added that for the fourth project location at Jalan Hock Sing in Sungai Padi where the main road collapsed, immediate action was taken by the Meradong and Julau District Council (MDMJ) to repair the road, having received a complaint from a local community leader.

The fifth project involves widen the main road near SMK Bandar Bintangor, meant to reduce traffic congestion during peak hours, he said.

Among those present were JKR Sarikei representative Frasser George Michael, Telekom Sibu deputy manager Nur Iqlima Mohd Nasri and Pemanca Yii Hee Sieng.
