SIBU: A food delivery rider has fallen victim to a non-existent investment scam, resulting in a loss of RM75,300.

The incident came to light after the 50-something man lodged a police report on Thursday (Dec 7).

Sibu OCPD ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, in a statement today (Dec 8), revealed that the victim encountered an advertisement on Facebook on Sept 10.

“Intrigued by the scheme, the victim clicked on the provided WhatsApp link and communicated with a suspect named Susan, who provided details about the investment scheme.”

On Sept 24, the suspect added the victim to the investment group named Global Live Road Show for Capital stock investment, instructing him to download the Bain Online application and make payments to start investing.

The victim made six transactions totalling RM75,300 into four different accounts between October 25 and November 24.

“The victim became suspicious when the suspect offered excuses for not allowing withdrawal of the investment fund. It was at this point that the victim realised he had fallen victim to a scam.”

The case is now under investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property.

If convicted, the offender could face imprisonment for up to 10 years, whipping, and a fine.
