KUCHING (April 7): Former Deputy State Secretary (Administration) Datu Buckland Bangik has been sworn in as a member of the Sarawak Ombudsman, marking the fulfilment of the statutory minimum membership required under the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023.
The swearing-in ceremony was held before High Court Judge Dean Wayne Daly yesterday, following Buckland’s appointment which took effect on March 2, 2026.
Sarawak Chief Ombudsman Dato Sri Abdul Ghafur Shariff said the appointment brings the total number of Ombudsman members to five.
“Today is a significant milestone as we have achieved the minimum quota of five Ombudsman members, although the maximum allowed is seven,” he said, according to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit report.
He added that the Ombudsman institution will continue to play its role in receiving complaints from the public while overseeing ministries, state government departments and government-linked companies.
Also present at the ceremony were Ombudsman members Albert Tang Yew Liong and Toieyah Tioh.
