KUCHING (Nov 28): Former Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) chief aviation and strategy officer Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin has been appointed as AirBorneo’s chief executive officer (CEO), effective Jan 1, 2026.

State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki confirmed the appointment when asked about speculation linking Megat Ardian to the Sarawak-owned airline.

“We have agreed to appoint him as the CEO of AirBorneo,” he said when met by reporters after signing a memorandum of understanding to integrate SarawakPass with MyDigital ID at State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

Citing a report from News Strait Times (NST) Business Times, AirBorneo views Megat Ardian as the right person to steer the airline’s growth, backed by his decades of experience in the aviation sector.

According to the report, sources said he is expected to take the helm after Dec 31, once the Sarawak government completes its takeover of MASWings. He will be based at AirBorneo’s headquarters in Kuching.

“Megat Ardian is a familiar name in the industry, having previously held key roles at Malaysia Airlines Bhd, AirAsia Bhd and Saudi-based low-cost carrier Flynas before joining MAHB.

“MASWings is the rural service airline subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), which owns national carrier Malaysia Airlines,” NST Business Times reported.
