Former Sarawak DCM George Chan scores hole-in-one ahead of 90th birthday

KUCHING (Sept 24): Former Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam marked his coming 90th birthday in memorable fashion after scoring a hole-in-one recently.

It was learnt that Dr Chan achieved the feat while golfing in Singapore.

A hole-in-one in golf occurs when a player hits the ball straight from the tee into the cup on the first stroke. It is also the rarest shot in golf.

The milestone provided a fitting birthday moment for Dr Chan, who remains active on the golf course and continues to enjoy the sport in the company of friends.

He will officially turn 90 tomorrow.

By his side throughout the years has been his wife, Datin Patinggi Datuk Wira Lorna Enan Muloon Chan, who has shared his journey through public service, family and community life.

Dr Chan, who began his career as a doctor in Miri before entering politics and eventually serving as Deputy Chief Minister, has remained active in community and social activities after leaving public office.

His outlook on life was perhaps best summed up in remarks he shared on his 88th birthday two years ago: “The most important thing in life is to be happy and to have a lot of friends. When everybody is happy, the world will be a happier place.”
