KUCHING (April 1): Former Sarawak State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani has been appointed the new Independent Non-Executive Chairman of Zecon Berhad, effective today.

Zecon said in a statement that the appointment brings to its board a distinguished figure with over 40 years of leadership experience across Malaysia’s public and corporate sectors.

Mohamad Morshidi served as Sarawak state secretary from 2009 to 2019 and previously held various senior roles, including positions in the Chief Minister’s Department, management executive roles at Petronas, and as director of the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU).

He currently holds several key positions, including chairman of the Development Bank of Sarawak (DBOS), Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs), and the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (Statos).

He also serves as a director of Sarawak Energy and the Sarawak Multimedia Authority.

Zecon Group managing director Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad said the company is privileged to welcome Mohamad Morshidi to its board.

“His profound understanding of Sarawak’s strategic development and his immense experience in both the public and private sectors particularly in board governance, public sector leadership and strategic stakeholder engagement will be central to Zecon’s flagship Kota Petra Green Technology Park Masterplan development and invaluable to the Group’s next phase of growth,” he said.

Mohamad Morshidi holds an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities, a Master of Science in Human Resource Administration from the University of Scranton, Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the National University of Malaysia.
