MIRI:  A forum on Career and Security was held here Saturday to discuss challenges related to crime and public safety.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Sebastian Ting, hoped it would serve as a valuable platform for exchanging views and sharing knowledge .

“I believe this forum will have a profound impact on our collective ability to address the challenges posed by careers, criminal threats, and security concerns,” he stated.

He stressed the need for vigilance, particularly in the digital age, warning of the dangers posed by misinformation on social media platforms.

“We must be cautious about what we see online or in the media. There’s a lot of misleading information that can create unnecessary panic or fear. This is particularly true when it comes to crime, especially in Malaysia where the situation can often seem worse than it actually is,” he noted.

Ting highlighted the growing concern around certain types of crime, including love scams, which have become prevalent.

He urged the public to remain skeptical of information they encounter and to prioritise personal safety in both their professional and private lives.

“We need to be aware and cautious. Crime is a significant threat, and we must not take security for granted, whether it’s in our careers or daily routines,” he added.

The forum brought together various stakeholders to discuss measures that could ensure a safer environment for all.
