KUCHING, May 13: Four Chinese nationals escaped unharmed after a fire destroyed three rental rooms on the second floor of a building at The Big Fan Café along Jalan Setia Raja in Tabuan Jaya early this morning.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Tabuan Jaya responded to the emergency at 12.05am and a team of firefighters was dispatched to the scene, with assistance from the Batu Lintang Station.
Operation commander PBK I Syamsyul Mustapha reported that upon arrival, firefighters found a second-floor space measuring about 20×40 feet engulfed in flames and thick smoke.
Firefighters deployed one 200-foot hose line with two nozzles, using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant to extinguish the blaze. Ventilation works were later carried out to clear the remaining thick smoke from the premises.
Initial investigations found that the affected area comprised three non-permanent rental rooms measuring 10×6 square feet each, separated by gypsum board partition walls.
The fire completely destroyed all three rooms, which were occupied by four individuals comprising three women and one man. Fortunately, all of them managed to escape safely before the fire spread further.
No injuries or fatalities were reported. The operation concluded at 1.31am.
The cause of the fire and the extent of losses are still under investigation. — DayakDaily
