Four locals held for carrying syabu at Miri Airport

MIRI: Four individuals, including a woman, were arrested at Miri Airport after authorities discovered drugs suspected to be syabu (methamphetamine) in a box that they were carryingrt.

Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed the arrest, saying that the suspects were intercepted by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) upon their arrival from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Dec 28, 2023, at 4.30 pm.

The authorities detained the suspects upon finding 8,400 grams of syabu worth RM227,200 inside the box. The suspects, aged between 23 and 34, were taken into custody while undergoing security screening at the airport.

“During a further checks, police discovered a box containing eight green-colour packs inside containing methamphetamine,” Alexson said.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the drugs were intended for local distribution. Presently, all suspects are remanded for five days, and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.”
